About Infinitec

Infinitec, which stands for infinite potential through technology, is the technology program of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago. The mission of Infinitec is to advance independence and promote inclusive opportunities for children and adults through technology. We are a member-based organization currently supporting school districts in Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, and Georgia.

Infinitec offers four pillars of service:

Training and Education includes face-to-face and distance learning for professional development.

Information Services consists of extensive web and hard copy resources. An additional innovative resource is InfiniTEXT, an online, accessible instructional materials collection which provides access to over 11,000 digital text files for qualified K-12 students with print disabilities.

Access to Expertise includes access to highly experienced technical assistance staff.

Equipment Services includes discount purchase programs and a lending library of equipment for the state of Illinois.

KU SIM Learning Strategies: Focus on Executive Functioning: 2 Strategies for 1 Focusing and Organizing Together

Focusing Together is an instructional program that promotes self-management skills in association with a set of classroom expectations that defines responsible work habits, respect, and emotional and physical safety. Students learn how to live by a set of learning community expectations; how their choice of whether or not to abide by those expectations affects their personal power; and how to follow a self-management strategy for staying on task when they must work independently or in small groups. In research studies, students in experimental classes reduce the number of off-task behaviors during the time they were expected to work independently (from a mean of 21 to a mean of 4.5 per 45-minute period; comparison class means were 21.9 and 18.3). Organizing Together is a program that can be used to provide instruction in some basic strategies associated with keeping notebooks, schedules/calendars, desks, lockers/cubbies, and backpacks organized.

This 2.5 hour training is intended as follow-up for staff who have attended the general Menta Crisis Prevention Training. The presenter will provide strategies for dealing with physically aggressive students. Participants will practice the Menta Method techniques. Some of the key topics in the manual will be highlighted. There will be time to answer any questions that the group may have in reference to the technique and discuss strategies to prevent/limit the use of physical management. Participants should wear comfortable clothing for activity.
